Aaron Yoder, World Record Holder of Backward Racing, Visits Wilmington for Northside Sports and Cultural Center
Public Invited to Compete in 5K or 1 Mile Race on Saturday, December 16, at UNCW's Track
Star athlete and world record holder Aaron Yoder will be in Wilmington on Saturday, December 16, and will attempt to set a new 400m track record in the 4th Annual One Mile Backwards Challenge on Saturday Dec 16, 2023 at 9:30 AM at UNCW’s Track. Mr. Yoder holds the world record for the fastest one mile backwards (5:30) on a straight course.
The public is invited to participate and compete in the 12/16 Backwards 5K Race, which starts at 8 AM, and Backwards 1 Mile Race, which starts at 10 AM.

Packet pick-up with in-person tips for running backwards is on Friday, Dec 15, 3-6PM at UNCW's Track. Mr. Yoder and Wilmington's own Tracy McCullen (the “Man who runs 100 miles backwards”) will be onsite and available for interviews.
The 4th Annual Backwards Challenge will raise funds to develop the OPTIMISM OASIS SPORTS COMPLEX in downtown Wilmington. Optimism Oasis is a 15-acre sports and cultural complex envisioned for downtown Wilmington.
